| Past Events 11-08-2007: 11th Annual Community Food Drive CNSC Celebrates Thanksgiving, Chinese Style CNSC and 13 other community-based organizations held the "11th Annual Community Food Distribution" on Thursday, November 15, 2007 to celebrate Thanksgiving in the Chinese community. The Community Food Distribution was based in San Francisco Chinatown’s Willie "Woo Woo" Wong Playground and Visitacion Valley’s Hans Schiller Plaza Park, passing out a total of 3,500 food bags. There were 24 different food items; a total of 25 items including an energy efficient light bulb from P.G. & E.: 5,000 pounds of sweet potatoes, over 1,000 cases of food items, and over 3,000 boxes recycled after the event. The point of the event is to give charitable hearts during the Thanksgiving season, allowing the community to experience kindness and loving care for the holidays. Distributing items include: canned good, crackers, vermicelli, noodles, Chinese sausage, soy sauce, oatmeal, coffee, and many dry food. This Food Distribution is successfully brought to the community after many months of planning amongst CNSC and 13 other community-based organizations. Our center received great support from Mr. Eddie Tsang Chao Suet Foundation, Poon Foundation, Portsmouth Plaza Parking Corporation, Oriental Food Association, Association of Chinese Cooking Teacher, Wycen Foods Inc./Vitasoy, Ms. Fanny Wong, New Horizon Enterprises Ltd., Ms. Kanny Wong, and Francis Quan to maintain this event for the 11th year. CNSC also give special thanks to S.F. Food Bank, S.F. Chinatown Lions Club, P.G. & E., Vitasoy, and various collaborating organizations who helped distribute 50,000 items to 3,500 low-income families, seniors, and people with disabilities. CNSC Executive Director Anthony Ng states, "Under the suppressing economy, many low-income or unemployed residents depend on similar community food distributions or food stamps to assist their sufficient living needs. In the present, even though there are various food drives in the community, CNSC continues to hold such a meaningful event. Our center will take as many routes and alternatives in order to fight for more sponsorship, and expand this event to serve more families in need."
