Stanford University Asian Liver Center

Description: To address the particular risks and treatment of liver diseases prevalent in Asians and Asian Americans, the Asian Liver Center at Stanford University was established in 1996 by Dr. Samuel So, Associate Professor of Surgery, Director of the Stanford Multidisciplinary Liver Tumor Clinic, and the Associate Director of the Liver Transplantation Program.

The three major functions and goals of the Asian Liver Center are: 1) to serve as a clinical resource center for the public and health care professional for information on the prevention, screening, diagnosis and treatment of liver diseases and liver cancer; 2) to spearhead efforts to formulate public health care policies and seek grant support to address the special needs of the Asian-American community especially in the areas of public education regarding the prevention and risks of hepatitis, screening for liver cancer, and new drug therapy studies; and 3) to develop a clinical and basic research program.
