41st Anniversary of Providing Free Tax Assistance for Low-Income Families (since 1973)

On Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 1:00 pm, Chinese Newcomers Service Center honored more than 70 volunteers who dedicated their time over the past 10 weeks on Saturdays and weekdays to provide FREE tax assistance to low-income and elderly taxpayers.

This year, CNSC and its dedicated team of volunteers prepared over 2000 tax returns and helped taxpayers recover over $2 million in refunds. Volunteers provided assistance in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.

Thanks to CNSC’s free program, thousands of low-income and elderly residents will be able to file their taxes and get tax returns this year. I’m glad to support this great service in its 41st year, said Supervisor David Chiu.

The United Way Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program offers FREE tax help to qualified low-income people who make $52,000 or less.
